COVID 19 IN OLDHAM

COVID-19 UPDATE 30/07/2020

Chief Medical Officers today have announced the period of self-isolation will be extended from 7 to 10 days for those in the community who have symptoms or a positive test result.

In symptomatic people COVID-19 is most infectious just before, and for the first few days after symptoms begin. It is very important people with symptoms self-isolate and get a test, which will allow contact tracing.

Advice to patients:

Stay home and self-isolate for 10 days. Members of your household should self-isolate at home too for 14 days from the point where you started having symptoms.

The symptoms of Covid-19 are fever, a persistent or new cough, and loss of sense of smell and taste.

Book a Covid-19 test immediately:

·         Get a coronavirus test - nhs.uk website or call 119 if you do not have internet access.
·         The test is most accurate in the first 5 days of having symptoms.

You should isolate yourself if you have any of the symptoms and only leave your house when going to get your test.

REMEMBER TO COVER YOUR FACE, STAY TWO METERS APART AND WASH YOUR HANDS

Weight Management Webinars
Obesity is one of the biggest health crises the country faces and with recent evidence showing a link between obesity and an increased risk from COVID-19, it’s never been more important to tackle the issue.

Almost two-thirds (63%) of adults in England are overweight or living with obesity – and 1 in 3 children leave primary school overweight or obese, with obesity-related illnesses costing the NHS £6 billion a year.

Off the back of the launch of the national Better Health campaign, led by Public Health England, in Oldham a series of Weight Management Webinars have been arranged and everyone is welcome to join, whether you have a weight issue yourself, work in the heath and care sector, look after someone with a weight issue or are just interested in the subject. These are in partnership with NHS Oldham CCG, South Chadderton Health Centre and ABL Health.

The first virtual webinar will take place on Friday 7 August from 2pm – 3pm.

Webinar content:
Ø  Discussion around weight management – overcoming barriers to weight loss, sensible food choices and how to become more active
Ø  Services available – encouraging lifestyle changes, not a short term diet
Ø  Support mechanisms available to the people of Oldham – minimum of six month’s support

If you are interested in joining this webinar, please visit http://www.oldhamccg.nhs.uk/News/Weight-Management-Webinars where you will find more information.
