How to book Appointments:

Appointments can be made online via patient access, by phone on 0161 484 1414, or you can call into the surgery.

If you have not already registered to book your appointment online please visit www.patientaccess.com  or call in the surgery and our receptionist will give you your personal registration form with easy to follow instructions.

Routine & Non urgent appointments

These are available within 2 working days and up to 4 weeks in advance.

Pre bookable appointments

The first 5 morning appointments and the last 3 evening appointments for each GP are pre-bookable up to 4 weeks in advance. All other routine appointments do not become available until the day before. For patients who work and find it difficult to attend surgery during the daytime, we hold a late surgery on a Monday evening and early morning one on a Wednesday which is bookable in advance. We will endeavour to provide an appointment with your preferred doctor but this may not always be possible.

Urgent appointments:

If you need to be seen urgently, please try and call as early as you can.  Although we do have a limited amount of urgent appointments released every day, these do get booked soon after our telephone lines open. If you miss one of these but feel that your medical problem cannot wait until next available appointment, the receptionist will inform the Doctor on call, if the on call doctor agrees that the problem cannot wait, they may be able to find an earlier appointment.

Our receptionists are specially trained to fit you in with the most appropriate consulter, be it a doctor, advanced nurse practitioner, practice nurse or healthcare assistant. Please help us by being prepared to answer a few general and non-intrusive questions regarding why you need to be seen. If you prefer not to give any information, just let the receptionist know and they will respect your wishes.

Length of Appointments:

A single appointment lasts ten minutes, which is usually enough to deal with one problem. If you have more than one problem to cover or feel that you will need more time, please ask for a longer appointment. Patients who need a special examination for employment or travel should ask the receptionist for a longer appointment. Normally patients who have complex medical needs are usually advised by the GP to book a double appointment.

Patients being late for appointments:

We see hundreds of patients each day and only have 10 minutes for each consultation. We rely on patients being on time to provide a good service. When a patient is late and still seen, this can have a significant effect on other patients being on time. The practice policy is that if a patient does not arrive within 10 minutes of their appointment, they may have to rebook their appointment. Patients who are late will only be seen at the discretion of the Doctor and this is likely to be at the end of the clinic.

Doctors running late:

Often doctors do run late. Only having 10 minutes for each appointment is sometimes difficult to keep to. Doctors can often be counselling suicidal patients or letting a patient know about a serious cancer diagnosis amongst other situations that require more time. I'm sure most people would appreciate a little extra time during difficult appointments like this, so please be understanding and do not take out any frustrations on doctors or staff in this event.

Patients not attending appointments:

If you cannot keep an appointment, please let us know so we can offer your slot to someone else. We now have an answer-phone to record cancellations. Just dial the surgery line 0161 484 1414 and then press 0 you can then just leave your details: – your name and time of the appointment you wish to cancel and we will do the rest. You do not need to wait for a receptionist to answer.

If you are registered for patient access you can easily cancel online.

For those patients' who have a mobile phone registered, they can text the surgery to cancel using their text reminder.

There really is no excuse to miss an appointment.

Practice policy and missed appointments.

We have a very strict policy on missed appointments. If you miss 2 appointments within a 6 month period without offering a good reason you will be sent a warning letter informing you of the impact this has on other patients and that should you miss another appointment you will be removed out practice list.

Children under 5:

Children under 5 will be offered a same day face to face or telephone appointment with a prescribing clinician ( Monday to Friday excluding bank Holidays). Please let the receptionist know that your child is under 5 when you call.
